CISCO: la magia de la APLICACIÓN

The Mercury News reporta sobre el próximo lanzamiento (diciembre de 2006) por parte de CISCO de su nuevo producto de VIDEOCONFERENCIA. Apartes de la noticia:

So what is it about a teleconferencing product that has Cisco crowing? "This will give people the reason to upgrade their network," said Marthin De Beer, vice president of Cisco's emerging markets technology group...

¡Buen punto! (y así se venden nuevos y más switches y routers CISCO)

Giancarlo (Cisco's Chief Development Officer) said he wouldn't be surprised if in three to four years consumers viewed Cisco as a video company. That's because high-quality video is both easy for the masses to grasp and for the company to use in its new marketing campaign, he said. Add the technological factor that video also requires more intelligent switches than the ones many corporations purchased during the past decade to transmit basic data packages, and the company thinks it has found a sweet spot.

Lo dicho... Esto es ESTRATEGIA ¡Y van por el mercado de las personas - hogares - pymes - sohos que cada vez tienden a confundirse más!

Giancarlo, who said it took a year to convince top Cisco executives to develop high-end teleconferencing, can quickly rattle off compelling statistics to prove that clients will need to spend money to upgrade their networks. For instance, it would take more than a year of emails to equal the amount of bits transferred over the network in one movie.

¿Increíble no? (Qué los altos ejecutivos hayan tardado 1 año para convencerse de la oportunidad... el proceso de la INNOVACIÓN y Desarrollo de Producto no es fácil)

One industry analyst described Cisco's system -- which the company calls "telepresence" -- as far superior than other video conferencing products, typically accessed or run over the Internet... Chambers (CISCO's CEO) has touted the new technology as so lifelike that it could replace corporate travel, saying that Cisco will cut $100 million in expenses by reducing travel 20 percent in the next 12 months... The system uses software the company created and runs on a network powered by the company's own routers and switches. The pictures are displayed on a 60-inch plasma screen with 1080-pixel screen resolution, which is four times better than the standard television and two times better than a high-definition television.

La DIFERENCIACIÓN lograda

Maintaining control over the network allows Cisco to eliminate the delay in speech or jerky motions found on many of the other systems, said Zeus Kerravala, senior vice president of enterprise research at Yankee Group. "You have to experience it," said Kerravala said. "Cisco would do best to build as many of those video centers as they can."
